Paper Mache Gargoyle

So I have been busy still with paper mache. My last project got the whole family started making paper mache figures and now that its almost halloween, we are really inspired to make things. My husband and I decided that we would make some gargoyles to perch above our front door awning. They will be looking down at the trick or treater’s and anyone who comes over before halloween.

I have completed all but 99% of mine and I was going to share some pictures of it here. Tonight I am going to make some final hot glue adjustments and let the paint dry overnight before I perch it outside. I will try and update with the pictures of it perched by tomarrow.

I only took 1 picture of my progress, or the undermakings of this project. I used a cut up 2 liter bottle. lots of hard magazine paper, tape and paper mache and this first picture is of the figure before I added some wire to the wings.

I will continue to take some pictures, as now I realize these do not do the figure justice. I’ll be back later to update some pictures.

Here are some better pictures. I am finished with the glue now.

Digital Artwork Surface Pro 3

My husband got us a new computer in November 2014. A surface Pro 3. I have since been able to do a whole lot of artwork on it. My favorite digital piece I have drawn since 2015; I will highlight here. Then I am going to include a link to my slideshare with some more of my digital work.

You can also see some of my work highlighted here in a few of my old recipe blogs, sometimes I like to illustrate my recipes. thanks for checking out some of my artwork!

Sculpting with Paper and Painting with Glue

Sculpting with paper and painting with Glue

My latest project has made me realize so many things. I have not written in a while, because work on my it has distracted all my thoughts. See my post here to explain:

http://momsorganicbohofoodfun.com/2015/10/11/cleaning-out-the-skeletons-in-my-closet/

I have also not worked on any art in a while, so starting a project from nothing felt really good to do. I am a artist at heart and this project just wrapped up all my skills into one neat idea. I am really proud that somehow I was given the inspiration for this idea and not only entertained the thought but I followed through and created it.

One night I was thinking of what to do with my all my old artwork. Delving through it has created feelings unto itself and I just wrote an article on them here.

I wrote out the concept idea in my notebook and even made a few sketches of the idea. I thought of putting all my art skills to the test and creating 3d sculptures that represented me in stages of my past. I had a whole page of ideas before I came up with the idea of figurines aka dolls of fairly large size to not only represent stages of me, in shape but also I would cover the figures in my old artwork.

I have all but 90 % finished my first figure aka ages 5-12; here is a little description;

She’s got Pigtails and a Dress

She smiles with innocence

She plays with color

She knows she can create;

“Express yourself at every chance”.

I am still working on her. She is still a work in progress, but her progress is what has impressed even myself. I am writing this artist statement to show how I made her. I made so much progress just Sculpting with paper and painting with glue. I went through 2 batches of paper mache, and almost a whole roll of masking tape for the underbody creation. I have only spent 2.63 cents on this project on that roll of tape. Everything else I have found in my own home to make this project.

Here are the pictures of her progression from an idea to a realization.

added eyes; since trimmed

I am really happy with the results and every day she is transforming. The very last picture with the large eyes, is NOT the end result, it was just where I was the last time I worked on it. Since then I have trimmed the eyes and have begun to cut out the rest of the old artwork for covering the rest of her. I am not sure if I am going to cover her hair or not. I worked really hard on the hair and I am not sure if I want to cover the work that I did. But the work is very crude with ‘paper mud’ so I think I will at least try to cover the mud up somehow.

Thanks for reading about my latest project. And I look forward to posting about more of the figurines I make to come. I plan on making at least 2 more for this project.

Healing Skin Salve with Beeswax

I wrote this in 2013 when I lived off grid, and I am finally sharing my secret recipe.

Today I am going to share with you my special Skin Healing Herbal Salve recipe.

Its a DIY maker thing you gotta be a maker to understand. =)

I made this last fall with spring ingredients and as many possible ingredients from my own backyard.

I want to share with you my recipe and my methods as to show you the many things you can do with herbs and Make your own skin care.

First I will share with you the benefits of my Beeswax salve. I use for scars and healing and next time will add a few more things, please let me know what you would add or omit! I am open to suggestions!

Benefits of Boho Moms Beeswax Herb Skin Salve in scientific terms:

Demulcent-Relieves inflammation

Antiseptic-stops purification

Emollient-softens and soothes inflamed parts

Rubifacient -increases circulation and produces red skin

Nervine- stops nervous excitement

How I made it, and List of wonderful ingredients : Flowers, spices and bases.

Ingredients & steps :

Spices infused in small amounts into olive oil for 6 weeks:

Cayanne (Red pepper, Capsicum),

Ground Ginger,

Tumeric/Goldenseal root,

Alum root with a little cream of tartar,

Cinnamon bark,

Flowers infused into small amount of olive oil for 6 weeks:

Rose

Sage

Thyme

Calendula petals and flowers and leaves

Rosemary

Lavender

(optional ****) I had a jar of Cannibus leaves infused into olive oil large jar, and used this strained as a BASE.

BASES & Last steps;

So I Strained everything separately into their own jars, I had a little jar of infused spices very red and orange, and a jar of infused flowers slightly bigger for more essential oils and a large jar of Cannibus infused olive oil, and some beeswax…what next?, well just heat up a large outdoor style pan, I went really old school and used open flame (like camp stove style) (wheres the rocks?..lol) and heated up equal amounts of all the oils and then added like 5:1 Beeswax,. And then wait to cool, some books say 8:1 beeswax its a preference. I prefer more oily skin salve, but the more beeswax you add it means the harder your salve will get..and then while its still cool I like to pour into containers for later use when I know its a good consistency, a good way to test it is stick a wooden spoon into it and set it to cool for a min, then test it, if it needs more, add more! ❤
